Shoulder Discomfort

Managing Shoulder Discomfort

Shoulder pain can develop suddenly and be difficult to relieve. Due to its complex nature, the shoulder joint is prone to strain from prolonged periods of inactivity. For instance, holding a position for too long or leaning on a computer desk can lead to weakened muscles and ligaments in the shoulder. This can result in limited mobility and discomfort. In addition, the pain may spread to the neck and back and even cause numbness in the arm.

At DSE Solutions, we understand the importance of proper equipment positioning in preventing shoulder pain. For example, keeping the keyboard and mouse near the desk's edge promotes better posture, while an adjustable chair with arm support will  keep your elbows level with the desk surface. To keep documents within reach, we recommend using a flexible document holder. Furthermore, our ergonomic chairs with forward tilt can alleviate strain on the back, shoulders, and neck. Utilising a chair with adjustable armrests also promotes good posture by keeping the arms in line with the shoulders and the center of the body.

A simple DSE assessment and user training can greatly reduce the risk of shoulder discomfort. However, if symptoms persist, we recommend a thorough workstation assessment which we would be happy to conduct for you.
